KIMBERLEY CRANBROOK RAILS TO TRAILS

Kimberley is currently undergoing a boom in recreational trail development.  The Rails to Trails is the star of all this, providing a 25 km, paved trail between Kimberley and Cranbrook, with a rail grade incline of no more than 4% - accessible for people of any physical level to enjoy.  Please also visit our Kimberley Trails Society website for an ideal of what other trail development is taking place in the Kimberley area.


 

Trail description: A 25 km rail trail runs from Cranbrook, east to Kimberley along the rail bed of the Canadian Pacific railway. The trail will be a section of the Trans Canada Trail. Intended for self-propelled recreation only, the trail officially opens in Fall, 2010.
Trail fee: No charge
Towns along the trail: Cranbrook (pop 19,000), Wycliffe, Kimberley (pop. 6,500)
Trail surface: Paved surface
Designated activities: Bicycling, walking, inline skating, cross-country skiing

Getting to the trail: The trail can be accessed in Kimberley at the junction of Rotary Drive and Archibald Street across from the Civic Centre. Trail crosses the Highway at Marysville and can be accessed there also.

Downhill/Freeride trails

Local bike retailer Poser Sports offers shuttles up to the trails located just outside of Kimberley at Bootleg Mountain.  Check Poser's website for details.  There are also lift access mountain bike trails at the Kimberley Alpine Resort.  

Cross Country trails

The Kimberley Nature Park is a 2000 hectare park located within the City of Kimberley city limits.  There is a great network of single track cross country trails with excellent climbs and fast downhill trails.  Visit the Kimberley Nature Park website for details.
