Kimberley - where did the name come from?

Kimberley is home to one of the worlds largest lead zinc mines.  Mining has been prevalent in Kimberley since the late 1800's and Cominco, the town's prominent mining company is currently terminating mine operations and will be closing the mines permanently this year.  Due to the mining history of this city, Kimberley was named after a rich diamond mine in South Africa.
